JD

John "JD" Shimp began his musical journey in 2018. At the age of 17, he began to experiment with Hip Hop production using his iPhone, and GarageBand. As he entered university the following year, John began developing his own sound as he sat endlessly at the computer, perfecting his craft.

Now 6 years into the industry, John has produced for artists such as PRJCT and LuvAndreas, as well as his own production outfit, JDontheBeat. He takes his skills as a classically trained pianist and trumpet player, coupled with his knowledge of audio engineering and music production to bring a fresh perspective to the industry.

John has a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Music Technology minor from Susquehanna University. In addition to piano and trumpet, he also plays guitar, bass, and drums.

Knox Studios

Knox Studios was named after David and Anita Knox, John's maternal grandparents. A couple beloved by everyone they met; their love for music was just as infectious as their love for one another.

During family gatherings, Dave was always singing. He along with his three daughters and 6 grandchildren, the "Knox Von Trapps", were always making music. Nina had been living a life with MS (Multiple Sclerosis), so by the time John was old enough to make music of his own, she was very far along into her disease. Despite the trials, she participated in every sing along that she could.

Throughout their lifetimes, Dave and Nina kept on singing. Music was not just a choice for them, but a way of living; a way of seeing the world. Their love for music and people was unlike any other. John spent all of his youth soaking up the stories of his grandparents, and the opportunities they had to sing as a family. Without their persistence to always make music a priority, John would not be where he is at today in his music career. Dave and Nina paved the way for his career, as they will for those that come after him.
